Our Team

The MusicEDU team boasts extensive music performance, composition, teaching and technological experience. In addition to the key contributors who make the day-to-day possible, are our network of teachers who provide us with ongoing feedback to our programs ensuring we maintain a spirit of continuous improvement.


Kate Hargreaves - Director MusicEDU



K8Having graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium High School, Kate continued her studies at the Con and completed a Bachelor Music Performance (BMUS) majoring in Trombone.  Throughout her playing career, Kate performed with the Australian Opera Ballet Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, The Australian Wind Orchestra, Australian Blues Brothers Show and various freelance shows and engagements. Additionally, Kate taught brass and conducted wind orchestras, brass ensembles and symphony orchestras at multiple Sydney schools including Trinity Grammar, St. Aloysius, Barrenjoey High, Beacon Hill High and Bilgola Primary.

Kate opted for a more corporate career and worked for Yamaha Music Australia and more recently as the Divisional Manager for Casio Keyboards and Digital Pianos in Australia.

Kate was also the Vice President of the Australian Music Association (2009 & 2010) and a member of the CEO Institutes Transitional Leadership Program. Kate is currently a Board member of the NSW Chapter of the Australian Society of Music Educators. Additionally, Kate holds a Graduate Certificate in Management from the Australian Graduate School of Management.

With a vision to engage students in classroom music, Kate has commissioned talented individuals to work with to design the MusicEDU programs. MusicEDU aims to reach schools throughout Australia and New Zealand and impact the retention rates of students into elective music classes and the overall numbers of students having the opportunity to enjoy music within the classroom environment.


Ryan Gilpin - Account Manager

Originally from the United Kingdom, Ryan moved to Australia in 2013 to pursue his musical career in Sydney. Having studied the Piano, Flute and composition classically, Ryan is well traveled when it comes to his musical experience. From playing at large award ceremonies, national conferences, and televised performances in the UK, Ryan has had the pleasure of working with some incredible artists; most notably, recording an album with the producer of Delta Goodrem and many other well-known artists, 'Eliot Kennedy'. Ryan's music can now be heard on globally selling albums.

Ryan enjoys the satisfaction that comes with private instrumental instruction. This teaching has given Ryan great insight into what it takes to keep students engaged in the journey of learning an instrument. He is passionate about MusicEDU as he believes that it gives students the chance to learn in a pleasurable, fun and engaging classroom environment.

In recent years, Ryan has worked alongside prestigious arts organisations such as Opera Australia and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, as an Account Manger. It is Ryan's aim to make each customer feel valued, cared for and listened to, reflecting the same core values of MusicEDU.

Katie Wardrobe - Author, Studio Sessions™

Katie Wardrobe is a qualified teacher who enjoys helping people get the most out of music software programs. She runs her own business – Midnight Music – which specialises in training classroom teachers, instrumental music teachers and students, and she also runs sessions for composers, songwriters and arrangers.

Katie has worked in a variety of music and education-related workplaces, including Sibelius Australia and Orchestra Victoria. In 2011 she was the Project Manager of the Soundhouse Alliance's Music Technology in Education Conference and she has presented at more than 25 other conferences and events.  In 2010 Katie set up a tutorials and tips site to support users of MuseScore – free open-source notation software – and in 2011 she released an ebook titled MuseScore: The Essential Beginner's Guide.

Katie has also worked as a freelance copyist, music arranger and transcriber for more than 20 years and is an Executive member of the Music Arrangers Guild of Australia.


 DJ Nino Brown - Content Development, TrackFormers™

Nino Brown is one of Australia’s leading Urban DJ’s, who has shared the stage with artists such as Jay-Z, Rihanna, Chris Brown, T-Pain and Snoop, and toured the country as the official DJ for one of the world’s biggest urban music festivals, Supafest.

DJ Nino Brown can also be heard regularly on radio with The Edge 96.ONE.

Nino Brown has shown great dedication to the DJ art form, which saw him signed to Universal Music, where he can take credit for creating the Blazin Mixtape series, which has gone on to become the biggest urban music compilation in Australia. He also works with major corporations and brands such as New Era, Nike, Monster Headphones, X-Box and G-shock.

Additionally, Nino partners in production with Jord Levus and together they have successfully produced remixes for local acts including Justice Crew and Timomatic. Both singles reached the number 1 spot on the Aria Charts.

DJ Nino Brown generously shares his DJing techniques and expertise with MusicEDU in the TrackFormers program, with the aim of inspiring the next generation of DJs.

Heather Crawford - Author, GameComposer™

Heather is currently the Performing Arts co-coordinator at Engadine High School  (NSW) leading a team of dedicated classroom music and dance teachers. Their award winning extracurricular performing arts program consists of over 250 students involved in Dance, Drama Band and Vocals and their elective program is one of the most popular subjects at the school. 

Heather has a particular passion for video games and their soundtracks and was commissioned by MusicEDU to write GameComposer™ with the view to opening up this dynamic and ever-evolving topic to music educators who are keen to find out more.  Heather has developed curriculum content for students in years 9and 10 that captivate and engage her students, immersing them in the science and technology of video game music.

Sam Donavan - Scores and Arrangements

SamDSamuel Donovan was born in Melbourne but has spent most of his life in Newcastle and its surrounds. He received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Newcastle, and comes from a background of choral music, having sung for more than ten years in both the choir of Christ Church Cathedral, Newcastle, and the award-winning University of Newcastle Chamber Choir. Sam has written a number of choral works, including mass settings, anthems and carols, which both groups have performed locally, interstate, and internationally.

Achievements include having his Year 12 composition, Agnus Dei, selected for the Board of Studies showcase concert, Encore, at the Sydney Opera House, and performances of his music at Salzburg Cathedral, St Paul’s Cathedral, London, and various venues in the UK and USA. A recent composition, Seal Lullaby, had its South Australian premiere in a concert as part of the 2014 Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Aside from the arrangements he has done for the Keyboard Evolution and Studio Sessions programs, he has also arranged a setting of the national anthem for choir and stage band, some pipe organ solos, and a number of songs for barbershop quartet and other ensembles.

He now does freelance work writing, arranging and typesetting choral and instrumental works for a variety of clients.


Rob Woodward - Scores and Arrangements

At 17, Rob became principal saxophone in the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain before spending four years studying both classical and jazz saxophone at the Royal Northern College of Music with Rob Buckland and Andy Scott of the Apollo Saxophone Quartet. During this time he performed in masterclasses for classical artists such as John Harle, Claude DeLangle and in concert with jazz greats including Andy Sheppard, Julian Arguelles and Jiggs Whigham. Just before graduating Rob received the Terence Greaves prize for jazz composition for his big band work, Quake Town City Limits.

After working for three years at sea with Princess Cruises, Rob moved to Sydney in 2008 where he now resides with his family.


Rob has arranged for the Sydney International Orchestra, the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and for various entertainers who perform his arrangements all around the world. As a freelance performer, he has accompanied established names such as Human Nature, Ricki-Lee and Todd McKenny.

Aside from this, Rob has academic lecturing commitments and is pursuing his Ph.D. studies within the music department of the University of Western Sydney. He also maintains a number of private students.


Nicole Hawkins - Graphic Design and Illustration

NicoleHNicole Hawkins is a designer, photographer, illustrator & musician/producer. Her business Infinity8 Multimedia specialises in creative for the music industry and has produced promotional material, advertisements, packaging and marketing campaigns for major brands such as Casio Musical Products, G&L guitars, Admira guitars, G-Shock watches, Everdure appliances alongside independent businesses, bands & artists.


Nicole is also a director of Rock Hawk Records, an independent record label based in Melbourne, Australia, where she heads up the artist creative & marketing departments.


As a singer/songwriter & guitarist, Nicole is passionate about the music industry and the people in it!

Tran Tai - Website Developer

Tran Tai

Tran comes to the MusicEDU Team with a wealth of experience in all things IT. He is an experienced PHP developer, can work with SilverStripe, Magento, Wordpress platforms, as well as PSD2HTML, Responsive designs, and Google Map / Facebook API's.

Tran prides himself on his quick and task-oriented work ethic and ensures any new website improvements are implemented as quickly as possible. Tran has been working on the MusicEDU website since 2014 and has designed the classroom management system and online quizzes.

Based in Vietnam, Tran is married and has a daughter.

Myla Manriza - Operations & Administration Assistant


Myla is a graduate of BS Psychology and brings to the MusicEDU team depth of experience in Human Resource functions and Administration support. Her love of education and discovering new things has seen her conquer the world of online work including website, e-commerce and marketing systems and she prides herself on her dedication and ability to add value in everything she undertakes.
Myla juggles her work commitments around her most important jobs as a devoted wife & mother of two beautiful daughters.

Susan Nichols - Marketing Coordinator 


Susan is a freelance writer, editor and blog content writer. In addition to working for MusicEDU, she manages an online marketing service with her husband, Bill, who is a recording engineer and musician. Together they have been working online since 1999 and with MusicEDU since 2015. Their continual purpose is to provide assistance to MusicEDU, teachers and students.
